Photography Workshops and Tours Alligator Farm / St. Augustine photography workshop
This workshop is currently full.

Visit Florida when the birds are plentiful and the weather is, well, better than any other place in the country. Come explore, learn and photograph some of Florida’s hottest birding locations with a Florida Native, Photographer and Master Naturalist, James Shadle.

On our list of locations for this photography workshop, weather being the variable, are: The World Famous Alligator Farm, the Anastasia Formation, St.George Street and Washington Oaks State Gardens

This workshop takes you to some of Florida’s legendary birding locations. Look forward to long legged waders in full breeding plumage, courtship behavior and babies in the nest, all just a few feet away from the boardwalk. If you want to be up close and personal and don’t have a monster lens, this is the workshop for you.

We will photograph sunrises at the Anastasia Formation, work the Alligator Farm until the light goes harsh and then either take a break or join me at The Washington Oaks Gardens. Then back to the "farm" for sweet afternoon light.

In addition to the tuition, you will be required to purchase an annual pass (this gets you in 1 hour before the "farm" officially opens for the day). Last year they were about $65. Money well spent, when you go home with those killer shots.

Expect busy days, sunrise to sunset. But for those who desire a break, no problem. You can relax and recoup during a midday break. Many like to break at lunch, a rest sped from the midday sun, or just a refreshing nap. We will make arrangements for everyone to meet for the afternoon shoot; others may join me for some midday macro (if I don’t fall asleep under a tree).

This time of year the weather can be paradise, hot or believe it or not cool. Be prepared, I like to wear light weight long sleeve shirts and long light weight fast drying pants. Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen and while at this time of year, we almost never need insect repellent, just in case, bring your favorite insect repellent. This way I know we won’t need it.

We hope to photograph: Most, if not all, of these species will be nesting at the "farm"
